Climate Urgency

According to the United Nations, if the world continues the current trend of emitting greenhouse gases, in less than 90 years very likely the global temperature will exceed 1.5 degrees Celsius relative to 1850 to 1900. That will bring in wide spread impacts in the natural environment such as the sea level can rise as much as 40-63 cm. It is alarming to see the rate of emissions has been accelerating, with the rate of increase higher during the years 2000-2010 than each 10-year periods before that.

What does that mean? It gives the message loud and clear that people’s way of life as we see today is making irreversible changes to the physical environment in which we live in an ever-faster pace. These changes put our livelihood and safety in the harm’s way. Floods and hill-fires will occur more often and come in larger scales, and these are only the more visible manifestations. Economy will suffer as more resources that could have been spent on people’s enjoyment or welfare must now be put aside for cooling, flood prevention, disaster relief or community rebuilding.

This brief account depicts a climate urgency that all people should recognize. Even more importantly, it is necessary to help people understand that climate change is not something only reserved for governments and big businesses to sort out. There are things everyone can do to help slow it down before it does become too late. LivGreen sets out to help on this front.
